Fully recognized degree OR 6 Points System

The Chancenkarte is Germany’s modern flagship points-based immigration system. It eliminates the traditional requirement of securing a firm job offer before arriving in Germany.

  • Direct Qualification: If your university degree or 2-year vocational diploma is already recognized as 100% equivalent to a German degree, you qualify directly without needing to calculate points.
  • Points Pathway: If your degree requires equivalence evaluation, you must achieve at least 6 points awarded for German language (A1–B2), English (C1), age (under 35/40), and verified work experience.
  • Financial Security: You must fund your stay via a verified blocked account or a formal declaration of commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung).

2. EU Blue Card (Blaue Karte EU)

§ 18g Aufenthaltsgesetz

The EU Blue Card is the gold standard for skilled international professionals holding an academic background or experienced IT developers.

  • Reduced Salary Thresholds: Thresholds have been reduced across both regular and bottleneck shortage fields (IT, engineers, math, physicians).
  • IT Professionals Without Degrees: Software engineers and tech leads with at least 3 years of verifiable experience can qualify even without a university diploma.
  • Job Flexibility: After 12 months with your initial employer, switching jobs within Germany no longer requires prior approval from the immigration office.

3. German Student Visa (Visum zu Studienzwecken)

§ 16b Aufenthaltsgesetz
🎓 140 Work Days 🎓 18-Mo Job Search Post-Grad
Working Student Allowance
140 full days (or 280 half days) per calendar year
Mandatory Funding
Blocked Account (Sperrkonto) required

Germany is globally renowned for tuition-free public universities. The student visa enables non-EU students to study and work flexibly while pursuing their degrees.

  • Expanded Work Rights: You can work in mini-jobs, part-time working student (Werkstudent) positions, or research assistant roles up to 140 full working days per year.
  • Student Applicant Visa: Still awaiting final admission? Apply for a 9-month applicant visa to sit for entrance exams or complete language coursework.
  • Transition to Career: After finishing your degree, you receive an automatic 18-month job seeker extension to convert to an EU Blue Card.

4. Freelance & Self-Employed Visas

§ 21 Aufenthaltsgesetz
💼 Freiberufler & Gewerbe ⏱️ Initial 1–3 Years

Germany makes a key legal distinction between liberal professions and commercial trade:

  • Freiberufler (Liberal Professionals): Ideal for software architects, creative directors, consultants, translators, and educators. Requires letters of commitment from German-based clients.
  • Gewerbetreibende (Commercial Business / Founders): For merchants, retail businesses, and physical establishments. Requires a comprehensive business plan, capital investment proof, and local Chamber of Commerce (IHK) approval.
