Here is a simple recipe to make homemade hamburger helper:
 

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
 

Instructions:

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the beef broth and milk. Bring to a simmer.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and Italian seasoning until combined.
  5. Slowly whisk the flour mixture into the simmering liquid until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the elbow macaroni and stir to combine.
  7. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until macaroni is tender.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Serve hot, garnished with extra cheese if desired.
